Go Four-Wheeling Near Denver
Our off-highway trails will lead you through high mountain passes, past historic mining sites and scenic back-country lakes, crystal-clear streams, alpine meadows, and fantastic vistas. Complete with mountain wilderness, abandoned mountain homesteads, historic ghost towns, and remnants of Colorado settlers who came in search of gold and silver. We only ask that you Stay the Trail, keep your wheels where they belong, and be courteous to other trail users.
Top 4WD trails in Clear Creek County
The Rockies are all about climbing heights. Horsepower, low gearing, and a ‘good working order’ on your trail rig will go a long way. Many of the best riding areas are the Summer Range for deer, elk, Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, and mountain goats. Occasionally mountain lions and black bears are spotted in the back-country.
Some stand-out trails include:
- Devils Canyon (outside of Idaho Springs, off HWY 103)
- Saxon Mountain (Northeast of Georgetown, next to Saxon Mountain Rd.)
- Jones Pass (Northwest of Empire, off HWY 40)

- Bring printed trail maps and/or download the Avenza map as wifi coverage tends to drop off
