Mount Evans Scenic Byway Opens for the Season

Mount Evans Scenic Byway is scheduled to reopen for the season on May 27, 2022 in cooperation with the USFS, CDOT and Denver Mountain Parks.

Mount Evans Scenic Byway typically reopens for the season the Friday before Memorial Day, weather permitting. Once open, the road will remain open in its entirety through Labor Day and then will be closed at Summit Lake. The lower portion of the Byway will remain open through the first weekend of October, weather permitting. Guanella Pass Scenic Byway Opens for the Season May 27, 2022, weather permitting.

Guanella Pass Road typically reopens the Friday before Memorial Day Weekend, weather permitting and will remain open through the last week of November, again weather permitting. The Annual Georgetown Bighorn Sheep Festival takes place the Second Saturday of November from @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join the Historic Town of Georgetown and Colorado Parks & Wildlife for the Annual Georgetown Bighorn Sheep Festival!

This festival always takes place the 2nd Saturday in November and runs from 10 am until 3 pm. There will be children’s activities, crafts, music, wildlife programs, hikes, tours and so much more!

Be sure to stop by the Bighorn Sheep Viewing Station and the Georgetown Gateway Visitor Center as trained volunteers with binoculars and spotting scopes help viewers locate the head-banging sheep and offer a brief lesson on the animals!

To visit the viewing station, take I-70 west from Denver to the Georgetown exit (#288). Turn left on Alvarado Road and follow the brown and white binocular signs until you reach the viewing station near Georgetown lake. Bighorns may be noticed from the highway, but, for the safety of both people and wildlife, please view sheep from the viewing station.
