The PAW Trail in Empire was designed for wheelchair and walker use, with features for visitors who are blind, have low vision, or are hard of hearing.
The trail follows part of the historic wagon route over Berthoud Pass. It is 481 feet long and includes interpretive signs and sections with contrasting gravel textures. There are a few steeper grades, so check conditions before visiting, especially after rain or snow.
CHARLIE TAYLER WATER WHEEL PARK
A short path can still lead somewhere worth slowing down for.
An accessible walkway connects the parking area behind Idaho Springs City Hall with Charlie Tayler Water Wheel Park and views of Bridal Veil Falls. Benches and interpretive signs make this an easy place to pause, listen to the creek, and watch the occasional rafter float past.
FISHING AND PAVED PATHS
Wheelchair-accessible fishing areas can be found along Clear Creek at Philadelphia Mill Site Park, Lawson Whitewater Park, and Courtney Ryley Cooper Park.
Sections of the Clear Creek Greenway also offer wide paved paths for walking, rolling, biking, and finding a quiet place beside the water. Conditions and connections vary, so review your chosen section before heading out.
ASK BEFORE YOU ARRIVE
Rafting, ziplining, UTV tours, mine tours, and other guided experiences may be adaptable, but access varies by location, equipment, staffing, and individual needs.
Call the operator before booking. Ask about transfers, trail surfaces, weight or equipment limits, service animals, accessible restrooms, support companions, and anything else that will help you arrive with confidence.

THE MIGHTY ARGO CABLE CAR
Ride above town for mountain views from Miners Point. Before booking, contact Guest Services to confirm the current boarding route, available assistance, and space for your mobility device. The historic Argo Mill Tour has separate access limitations because of its steep terrain and historic architecture.

RIDE THE ROUNDABOUT
The RoundAbout provides free transportation between Clear Creek communities and connections to regional transit. Buses include wheelchair-accessible spaces, and riders can request a pickup or drop-off within the service area when arranged in advance.
