Hike + Wheel + Explore

PAW Trail – Partners for Access to the Woods designed this trail in Empire, Colorado to be wheelchair and walker accessible, and for the visual and hearing impaired as well.

This is a one of a kind accessible hiking trail showcasing the history of the wagon road over Berthoud Pass. The trail is also enhanced with interpretive signage, and gravel sections level with the trail providing a different texture for impaired hikers to roam on. The trail is 481-feet long with a few steep grades.

PAW Trail - Accessible Trail, Empire Colorado

Camp

Easterseals Rocky Mountain Village Camp in Empire, Colorado is regarded as one of the top Easterseals camps in the country!

Fully accessible and used by more than 1,200 children and adults living with disabilities throughout the year. Campers enjoy swimming, fishing, overnight camping, outdoor cooking, travel camp, day trips, arts and crafts, sports and recreation, hiking, dances, music and drama, horse-back riding, zip-lining and more!

Historic Sites

Enjoy the Historic sites of Clear Creek County – Charlie Tayler Water Wheel Park and Bridal Veil Falls in Downtown Historic District of Idaho Springs can be easily accessed from the parking lot behind City Hall just off of Miner Street.

The park features an ADA compliant walkway, beautiful decorative concrete, park benches, interpretive signage, incredible views of the iconic water wheel, and occasional sightings of white water rafters, kayaks, fly fishermen, and wildlife.

Accessible Luxury

Enjoy comfort and relaxation at the new Microtel in Georgetown, Colorado. Featuring five ADA compliant, wheelchair accessible rooms complete with accessible bathroom, audible and visual emergency alarms, remote control window coverings, wheelchair height electrical outlets, light switches, peephole, vanity, and more…

Elevators are located near the accessible rooms and the hotel pool also offers an electronic, remote controlled ADA pool lift.

Dreams do come true! AVA Zipline in Idaho Springs had the honor of taking Pete the 28 year old thrill seeker with cerebral palsy ziplining!

The guides at AVA are so passionate about connecting people with the outdoors that Pete was able to fulfill his lifetime dream of going ziplining. Watch the video of Pete on the zipline here.

Scenic Drives

Enjoy the incredible views as you travel along two scenic byways or navigate the other beautiful mountain drives in Colorado’s great Rocky Mountains.

From the Bristlecone Pine Forest to the summit parking lot at Mount Blue Sky, travel along the Mount Blue Sky Scenic and Historic Byway or the Guanella Pass Scenic and Historic Byway to enjoy breathtaking views, marvelous vistas, Aspen groves, waterfalls, and wildlife waiting to be discovered!

Fishing

There are wheelchair accessible bankside fishing piers along Clear Creek. Choose from the Philadelphia Mill Site Park, Lawson Whitewater Park, or Montgomery Park at Courtney Ryley Cooper Park (on the west side of 23rd Ave). Enjoy sitting lake side at Echo Lake Park, Georgetown Lake or at Grandma and Grandpa’s local fishing pond Mt Evans Trout Fishing.

Train Rides

All aboard the narrow gauge Georgetown Loop Railroad, one of Colorado’s first visitor attractions completed in 1884.

The Georgetown Loop Historic Mining & Railroad Park® is perfect for a fun filled day with the family! All ages and abilities welcome. Many coach cars, and select parlor cars are wheelchair accessible.

Enjoy the great scenery, sounds and sights of Clear Creek, and listening to the surrounding sounds of the train whistle and steam or diesel powered locomotive as the train winds it way from Georgetown to Silver Plume.

Accessible Transit

Clear Creek County offers Free Transit Solutions with ADA modified shuttles and wheelchair lifts on the Roundabout FREE Shuttle.

These shuttles are available in Idaho Springs, Empire, Georgetown, and Silver Plume with additional stops in Evergreen too

UTV Tours

Experience the excitement of exploring the Rocky Mountains in a side-by-side UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle) with friends and family! Located just 30 miles west of Denver, these accessible UTV’s allow you to enjoy the historic trails of Colorado backcountry, and with multiple trails, there is something for every thrill level.

Your guides will work to help you feel comfortable on the mountain trails and will go over instructional and safety training before heading out. Choose from one and two hour excursions.

Gold Mine Tours

Learn about the Colorado Gold Rush and explore history, geology, equipment, and gold processing in Idaho Springs at the Phoenix Gold Mine, Est. 1875.

This family owned and operated Colorado mine has been offering guided tours since 1988. Underground tours and gold panning for all ages and abilities. Please let the team know when making reservations if you will need special accommodations. At the Phoenix Gold Mine their goal is for everyone to enjoy the experience!

Keep an eye out for chipmunks, squirrels, humming birds, and mountain goats as they often visit the mine too!

Aquatics + Fitness

The Clear Creek Metropolitan Recreation Center in Idaho Springs was completely renovated in 2015. The entire facility is wheelchair accessible and several new features were installed – Now guests with special needs can enjoy a zero depth gravity pool, vortex pool, and even the lap pool with the ease of remote controlled ADA approved pool lifts.

The Rec Center also offers ADA compliant locker rooms and family locker rooms, full size gymnasium, meeting rooms, and elevator access to 2nd floor with access the state-of-the-art weight room, and indoor track. Group rates and facility rentals also available.

Paved Trails

The Bakerville Loveland Trail is five miles in length (one way) connecting Bakerville, Colorado to the east side of Loveland Valley Ski Area.  This paved trail gently climbs from 9,776 feet to just over 10,680 feet in altitude and is overlapped by the Continental Divide Trail connecting to Herman Gulch trail head. ADA compliant restrooms were recently installed on the Bakerville side of the trail.

During winter months, snowcat grooming provides an improved experience for fat bikes, cross country skiers and snow shoeing.

Paved Trails - Greenway

With more than 30 miles of pavement – the Greenway Trail System is an extension that will become part of the P2P (Peaks-to-Plains) trail system crossing Colorado.

Today, the trail is a patchwork of interconnected 6-8ft wide concrete and asphalt paths, interspersed along frontage roads running the length of Clear Creek County from Hwy 6 & I-70 east of Idaho Springs to Loveland Valley Ski Area. This incredible multi-use recreational paved trail provides access for all levels of mobility, as well as fishing access and wildlife viewing.

Gondola - Coming Soon

The Mighty Argo Mill and Tunnel is installing a 1.2 mile and 1,300 vertical foot Cable Car that will honor the local mining history and feature incredible vistas. A one-of-a-kind experience for all ages and abilities.

The upper landing will offer a variety of outdoor public spaces including food and beverage, restrooms, decks, amphitheaters, and interpretive nature and history trails.
