Guanella Pass Brewery

Good bye’s are hard… Especially when it comes with the loss of wonderful people, fun atmosphere, memories, and great beer.

Guanella Pass Brewery in Georgetown closed its doors on February 2, 2025. Owner and Founder, Steve Skalski was well respected in the Town of Georgetown. He contributed to many town events, opened an additional tap house in Empire, founded the Silverbrick restaurant, and also served on the Town’s Business and Promotions Commission for several years. From crafting delicious beers to visiting with his patrons, Steve was always an exceptional host.

I must add that opening a brewery at 501 Rose Street was not an easy feat. In fact, the building had zero plumbing when it was purchased! WOW ~ What a remarkable accomplishment to not only install plumbing but bring to fruition the dream of opening the first brewery and draft house in the Town of Georgetown inside of a building made of cinderblocks, that formerly only boasted antiques, cobwebs, and the wafting of cigar smoke through the air…

One thing is certain, Steve was sure this building was a diamond in the rough!

As I reflect on the legacy of the Guanella Pass Brewery it is truly like we have lost a legend. There are many stories and memories to hold. I am thankful for Guanella Pass Brewery and the life it brought to the Town of Georgetown and Clear Creek County, but most of all, I am thankful so many had the opportunity to experience a  ‘Real Mountain Brewery’, founded on the belief that ‘Where you drink is as important as what you drink.’

To Steve, your family, and staff ~ We are forever thankful to you and the love you ‘literally’ poured into Clear Creek County and the Town of Georgetown.
