Located just west of Denver, Clear Creek County has some incredible skiing to be found at Loveland Ski Area and ECHO Mountain. However, there are many other reasons to plan a snow day or weekend in the Gateway to the Rocky Mountains. From snowtubing to ice skating, this itinerary is packed with wintery activities to get your heart pumping.

Just 36 miles from Denver, ECHO Mountain Resort offers the closest tubing hill to the Front Range. Come enjoy six lanes of tubing fun complete with a conveyor lift. Apparel is available to rent onsite, from snow pants to helmets. And did we mention Night Tubing? Add to the family excitement with the thrill of sledding under the stars!

Insider Tip:   Dress for the weather! Just like skiing, you may come in direct contact with snow and cold temperatures. Layer up, it’s easier to take off a layer if it’s warmer than expected. Hats, gloves, scarves, winter coats and snow pants are a must for your packing list!

In Clear Creek County we love our ice. Whether you want to try ice fishing, watch thrilling ice racing, or try some spins on the ice, try the Georgetown Lake once it is completely frozen, typically January to early February. Or head to Werlin Park as the CCMRD builds a small ice rink to enjoy.

During the winter months of January and February with favorable conditions, locals and travelers alike hop into their AWD (All-wheel Drive) and 4WD (Four-wheel Drive) vehicles to experience ice racing on frozen Georgetown Lake in the heart of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains just west of Denver!

Clear Creek County is the gateway to the Rocky Mountains. Located just west of Denver along Interstate 70, Clear Creek has 396 square miles of public lands to explore, as well as four mountain peaks above 14,000 feet.
